2016 Ford F-150: Luxury in the Limited

By Sue Mead, January 16th, 2016

After a complete remake last year, Ford has now added an all-new, range-topping 2016 F-150 Limited edition to its lineup; also new are a special edition trim package and updated and first-in-class technologies. The new Limited trim is designed for upscale buyers seeking an exclusive pickup that has added convenience and top-level craftsmanship. On sale this winter, the newest truck will slot above the Lariat, the western-and-Texas-themed King Ranch, and the Platinum edition models.

On the outside, the Limited will sport exclusive 22-inch polished aluminum wheels and raised dimensional LIMITED lettering on the hood, while a unique grille and satin-finished chrome badge will sit on the tailgate. The chrome front bumper has been trimmed with body-colored end caps and the rear bumper is painted body color; bright belt moldings tie the two together. Other exterior accents are satin chrome door handles, chrome exhaust tip, and chrome front tow hooks on 4WD models. Available colors include Shadow Black, Magnetic, Blue Jeans, and White Platinum Metallic tri-coat.

The Limited's standard equipment list showcases some of Ford's top technologies, such as BLIS with cross-traffic alert, panoramic vista roof, power-deployable running boards, quad-beam LED headlamps, remote start and tailgate release, as well as an integrated trailer brake controller. A technology package adds a lane-keeping system, 360-degree camera system, and dynamic trailer hitch assist.

The Limited's interior sports heated and cooled unique black and Mojave leather front seats with Limited badging, 10-way power adjustment, and class-exclusive multi-contour massaging, along with heated rear seats and SYNC 3 with AppLink. SYNC 3 is Ford's latest communication and entertainment system, offering enhanced voice recognition, high-speed performance, a capacitive touchscreen, and an easier-to-understand graphical interface. A Sony 10-speaker sound system with HD Radio, subwoofer, and single CD player is paired with a five-year subscription to SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link.

Inside, one finds a laser-engraved VIN plate on the center console lid with the truck's production number, unique front and rear floor mats, a unique instrument cluster face, genuine fiddle-back eucalyptus wood and aluminum interior accents, and unique scuff plates with ice-blue backlighting.

Ford's segment-first Pro Trailer Backup Assist is optional. It helps drivers of all skill levels to back a trailer, launch a boat, or park in a driveway. Drivers simply steer a trailer by turning a knob left or right to indicate direction; the truck controls its steering and limits vehicle speed.

The 2016 F-150 Limited is powered by the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 that produces 365 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque paired to a six-speed automatic transmission with tow/haul and sport modes; it can tow up to 10,100 pounds, which Ford claims is best-in-class with a comparable engine. It has an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 17 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 20 mpg combined.

A new Special Edition Appearance Package is available on 2016 F-150s with XLT and Lariat trims and the Sport Package. It adds 20-inch anodized aluminum wheels with sport lettering, smoked headlamps, unique body-side graphics, SE seats with red Alcantara inserts, a stitched steering wheel and transmission gear selector, and a unique instrument panel. The SE package gets a blackened mesh grille on XLT models and a dark anodized dual-slat (red and black) grille on Lariat models.

The 2016 Ford F-150 with the 5.0-liter V-8 engine will also be available with a gaseous-fuel prep option that runs on compressed natural gas or propane.
