The Ford Explorer three-row SUV makes more technology available to more drivers for 2019.
FordPass Connect (formerly SYNC Connect), is standard on the 2019 Explorer Limited, Sport and Platinum models, and is included in the Driver Connect Package on XLT. Ford Safe and Smart Package -- a suite of driver-assist features including Adaptive Cruise Control, forward collision warning with brake support and Lane-Keeping System -- is standard for Platinum and available on XLT, Limited and Explorer Sport.
Blind Spot Information System is no longer part of the Ford Safe and Smart Package, but is standard on XLT, Limited, Sport and Platinum models. XLT technology feature bundle includes voice-activated touch screen navigation with pinch-to-zoom capability, SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link and a universal garage door opener.
Also new for 2019 is an XLT Appearance Package called Desert Copper that includes 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, chrome mirror caps, Ebony Black door trim panels with unique inserts, first- and second-row Ebony Black leather-trimmed seats with unique inserts and thirdrow Ebony Black vinyl seats with unique stitching.
Drivers can opt for a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine that delivers 280 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 310 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,000 rpm. Explorer Sport and Platinum edition models pack a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 that generates 365 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 350 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,500 rpm.
Base model Explorer, XLT and Limited trim levels come standard with a 3.5-liter V-6 that produces 290 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 255 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm. All engines are mated to a six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission.
