For 2020, BMW introduces a new M Performance model -- the X5 M50i -- to join the X5 lineup. It features the new top version of the 4.4L TwinPower Turbo V8 engine backed by an eight-speed sport automatic transmission, BMW's xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive, M Sport differential, M Sport exhaust system and model-specific M GmbH suspension tuning.
The M Performance TwinPower Turbo technology package delivers 523 horsepower between 5,500 and 6,000 rpm and 553 lb-ft of torque between 1,800 and 4,600 rpm. -- an increase of 67 hp and 74 lb-ft of torque over the X5 xDrive50i.
BMW launched its all-new X5 last year. Its pared-back design language retains the clean surfacing and precise lines that accentuate elegant poise and authority. A sculpted hood a short front overhang, lightly hexagonal wheel arches and the dynamic sweep of the roofline exemplify the sporty and rugged character of the new X5.
The most striking feature of the front end is the large BMW kidney grille with single-piece surrounds. The X5 comes standard with Adaptive LED headlights, while BMW Laserlights are available as an option and feature blue x-shaped elements, which split up the hexagonal light sources inside the familiar BMW twin headlights, make a distinctive visual statement.
Modern and elegant surfacing radiates a feeling of space inside the BMW X5. The front and rear occupants all enjoy generous accommodation amid an exclusive ambience.
The standard X5 has a choice of two gasoline engines. Heading the range is the BMW X5 xDrive50i, whose extensively developed V8 unit made its debut in 2019. A six-cylinder inline engine is under the hood of the BMW X5 xDrive40i. All engines channel their power through an eight-speed Steptronic transmission, while BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive is on hand to ensure that power is translated into secure progress -- on or off road.
